Monks are hands-down the best farmers. Balthazar's Spirit/Essecne Bond is infinite mana while soloing (gain 2 every time you get hit), prot spells can easily keep you alive though anything, and Zealot's Fire passivly kills surrounding enemies while you spam prot spells on yourself.
You CAN use Rangers to farm, but not very well. Either use Oath Shot + QZ + Whirling Defense on groups of ranged enemies (works on casters, but not as well) or EW + QZ + traps and then pull melee mobs into it. The top one is more effective with a decent secondary.
I've heard rumors of Mesmer farmers, but never seen one.

I use my ranger/nec for farming more than my mo/w. I do 4 attributes, beast mastery expertise marksmanship(just enough to use bow) and curses, use the pet as a tank, and use mark of pain coupled with dual shot and distracting shot and tiger's fury. I don't rely on enchants (the pet buffs are considerd shouts), and monsters that break hexes are MUCH more rare than enchant breaking monsters, so I can farm alot of weird things that other builds can't.
btw, though I've never used it with this build, oath shot would probably be useful for it, as sometimes the monsters don't bunch correctly and I have to run away while waiting for mark of pain to recharge.

Thanks.
